Pacific Palisades

The Pacific Palisades district within the city of Los Angeles is far removed from what you'd consider a typical community in a mega-polis to be. The views here aren't obscured by smog, the streets are un-congested, and there's no overcrowding in its neighborhoods. Clearly, Pacific Palisades is exceptional, not typical, and residents here appreciate that fact and zealously guard the quality of their homes and environs.

The area's topography is the main reason behind the excellent quality of life in the Pacific Palisades. Aptly named - a palisade being a line of bold cliffs - the community is defined by the six canyons that wind down from the Santa Monica Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. This rich, rugged landscape provides residents not only with spectacular panoramic views, but also with parks that abound in local flora and fauna.

The natural beauty of the surroundings plus the wonderfully mild climate (cooling ocean breezes and only 15 inches of rainfall in a year) makes outdoor recreation popular among visitors and residents. There are numerous hiking trails in Temescal Canyon Park and the Will Rogers State Historical Park, and Sunset Beach is just down the road.

The Pacific Palisades has its own commercial district (known simply as "the village") which contains around 500 offices, service businesses and retail shops. The community is also home to some of the best schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
